Project: New Steel frame training Facility & External parking
Project Description: Having completed phase 1 of the works we returned to Andover to complete the external works phase of the project. This project provides an extension to the existing training facility at Andover College and additional parking for staff, pupils & visitors alike.
Construction: The external works phase included the diversion of an existing gas main, installation of the stormwater drainage along with upgrades to the existing system. A new external concrete access ramp was formed to provide pedestrian access/egress to the building along with a number of additional porous block paved parking bays and a tarmac roadway. Soft landscaping topsoil areas added the final soft touches to this commercial build.
Planning & Execution: Prior to our return visit we engaged with the client to provide value engineering input to reduce costs and mitigate the financial impact of several unforeseen dilapidation issues within the existing footprint. Once works commenced, we reduced the build programme for the externals by 3 weeks to ensure that an early completion to our works was achieved, allowing an extended soft planting and handover process for our client. Our site team were diligent with their organisation of the works and a credit to GSJP & themselves.
Health & Safety: Working within a live campus with through traffic, the team were proactive in their planning of deliveries and the phasing of the work. In compliance with our in-house H&S planning, the team delivered a seamless and incident free programme of works with no reportable incidents, from diverting the live gas main through to the final surfacing works.
Quality: As ever our site team has produced a top-quality product which has received high praise from both our client and the end user.
Relationships: Here at GSJP we take a proactive approach toward the client/sub-contractor relationship. This is borne out in respect of the repeat business we achieve with our clients, with this project being one of six we have undertaken for the same main contractor.
