Client: Clegg Group Construction
Location: Greggs Distribution Centre, Solstice Business Park, Amesbury
Project Description: GSJP were tasked with providing an extension to the main building along with the associated parking, lorry yard, office extension works and all the associated external works. The site is an existing and live distribution centre.
Construction: GSJP were engaged by Clegg Group to provide the groundwork services for the project.
The soil stabilisation had been carried out prior to our arrival with the main building platform in place. At this stage we installed the foundation pads, ground beams and bolt templates ready for the steel frame erection. Once the frame was installed, we proceeded to install the perimeter Precast retaining structure and waterproofing along with some in-situ RC wall details. This was followed by 1000 tonne of IBAA infill to the floor area. By using IBAA as an alternative to primary quarry stone, this off-set the building process in terms of its environmental impact. Once the floor was filled, compacted and shaped the specialist floor contractor proceeded to install the industrial concrete floor.
Externally to the building we installed the storm drainage and new concrete dock leveller yard with a multi-track finish. The concrete yard design provided two layers of mesh, all the necessary joint details and a fibre mix concrete due to the heavy traffic situation in its end use situation. This was repeated for the lorry parking yard space.
In addition to the above yard space, we created a new overspill staff parking area in traditional flexible tarmac construction. This had a Qmax stormwater drainage system and an edge RC retaining structure due to the adjoining existing level difficulties.
An office building extension was constructed in the manner of the main building along with some external hard paving and kerbing alterations to accommodate the building.
We also carried out the installation of the external ducting and cable routes for all the gate entrance alterations and the new EV charging provision.
An additional lorry turning head was created as an extension to the existing roadway with a Chevlock retaining wall and a flight of RC steps.
Planning & Execution: The project was carried out within the existing and live distribution centre. This required detailed planning of the build schedule and delivery sequencing and a very stringent H&S appraisal of how our works were carried out without impacting on the existing business logistics. Regular meetings and dialogue with our client and the site team ensured that the project was completed on time, within budget and with no H & S issues throughout its duration. This is a real credit to the site teams involved on such a sensitive project.
Quality: The project was closely monitored by the client throughout and we have received a glowing report form the client and the end user for the works carried out, thus continuing the GSJP ethos of SQAP (Safety, Quality & Production).
Relationships: This was our first project for the Clegg Group and had been won on recommendation. Our reputation has been enhanced by the standards we have set and reinforced Cleggs decision to use GSJP on this project.
