Steve is an experienced Health and Safety Manager dedicated to risk reduction, compliance, and embedding a proactive safety culture across the business. He champions the ethos of Teamwork and SQaP – Safety, Quality, Production – to ensure GSJP sites operate to the highest standards.
Steve’s career began in the Royal Navy before transitioning into the construction industry in the early 1990s. Starting out as a bricklayer, he went on to spend 19 years with the Environment Agency, working his way up from sea defence gangs to foreman, and eventually into contract and project management roles. Along the way, he earned CIOB and NEBOSH qualifications, reinforcing his technical and safety expertise.
After leaving the Environment Agency, Steve joined a local groundwork’s company where he combined hands-on work with managing health and safety responsibilities. After 14 years, he took on a new challenge with GSJP, drawn by the opportunity to help shape the safety culture of a growing business.
What Steve enjoys most about GSJP is working with a young, driven team that keeps him motivated and focused on continuous improvement.
Outside of work, Steve is a busy rugby coach at Havant RFC under-8s, a keen match fisherman, scuba diver, and a proud grandfather who enjoys making memories with his family. You’ll often find him living the van life in his beloved camper van.
